EA along with other companies released its quarterly earnings this month, but along with the financial news, the company also released some information about an upcoming game called Need for Speed.

While Need For Speed shares the same name with the popular game serie along with the past 20 years of games, this new reboot is looking to re-launch the series as a whole, and focuses on customisation, car culture and a truly open world. Forza Horizon 2 was a start in the right direction for open world games but Need for Speed certainly looks promising, but we’ll wait and see.

Need for Speed has been in development for around two years as the EA development team decided to give the series a rest for 2014, this gave them the opportunity to gather feedback from NFS fans for what they actually wanted to see from the next game.

”With more than 20 years of history in its rear view mirror, we’re bringing Need for Speed back with a reboot that delivers on what Need for Speed stands for — rich customization, authentic urban car culture, a nocturnal open world, and an immersive narrative.” – Ben Walke, EA Community Manager.

Ghost Games has also confirmed that the game will be set around car customisation and telling a story. The whole game will be set in a fictional area called Ventura Bay. Customisation will even go as far as disassembling your vehicle, adding spoilers and neons.

The official trailer doesn’t reveal much, but the graphics are stunning and although it doesn’t look it, all of the footage was captured in game, which is impressive as a number of people I have spoken to have said at first glance it looks almost real life. Need for Speed is expected to launch “holiday 2015” for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Xbox 360 and PS3 owners are out of luck as EA wants to focus more on graphics – and it shows.

EA is expected to reveal much more and the official trailer on June 15th as well as E3 2015.
