We now have more detail on the pricing for Europe and the UK for Windows 10, Microsoft’s upcoming release. Only until recently we found out the pricing for Windows 10 in the US, but for the UK and the rest of Europe we weren’t sure. Windows 10 Home will be $129 and Windows 10 Pro will cost $199 in the US. However Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users will get it for free for the first year.

UK pricing

Any customers in the UK who have looked at the “Get Windows 10” promotion will have noticed that it states “Enjoy Windows 10 for free” with £99.99 crossed out – although this price is for Windows 10 Home. Any other customers in the rest of Europe will see €135. While this is just for the Home edition, the prices for Windows 10 Pro haven’t get been revealed. In the US, users are expected to pay an extra $99 to upgrade to the Pro edition.

The final prices may be very similar to those of Windows 8.1

10/10 and mass appeal

Windows 10 is set to to launch on July 29 and will be free for Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users. The return of the start menu, more logical window management and deep integration with Xbox One makes it a very appealing package for users. Also Internet Explorer has died a death with the replacement named “Microsoft Edge” – Edge is much faster and has a better UI.

Personally, I think Windows 7 users will find this a very good upgrade, Windows 8 may have frightened some users off with the disappearance of the Start menu and confusing UI, Windows 10 seems a very compelling upgrade and at the price of free, you can’t complain.
