Earlier today, Nintendo reported that President Satoru Iwata has died at age 55. Iwata had been at the gaming company since 1983 and helped develop EarthBound, leading the company and to the Wii. But at E3 2014 he had to miss the conference because of health issues and later last year to have surgery to remove a growth. Nintendo is currently been run by Genyo Takeda and Shigeru Miyamoto for the time being.

Iwata had certainly helped the company with the infamous Wii console back in 2007, but when he started in 1983, he contributed to EarthBound and Kirby, following that in 2002 he became the President of Nintendo. Since the early 2000’s Nintendo have had some hits and flops, the GameCube and Wii U were the few which didn’t seem to be a hit with anyone but I think everyone will remember the original Wii, it was a massive hit and helped bring the gaming industry into motion-gaming. The DS and 3DS range were huge for their time, but since then the iPod touch and iPad have since been the device of choice for youngsters.

Nintendo are on the good things following the Wii U, with new mobile games launching soon and Splatton has been very popular lately and it gives people another reason to by a Wii U.

Nintendo won’t be the same without Iwata leading the company, but it’s a sad day in the video game community.
