Working for Facebook must be neat and all but depending on your phone preference it may have a slight downside. Facebook is now requesting that all employees use Android phones as opposed to iPhones in the work place, this move isn’t aiming to advertise Android phones and state that iPhones are bad but instead to help improve the software on the platform as the vast majority of emerging markets are using Android phones because of the cost.

Chief Product Officer at Facebook, Chris Cox said:

“I am mandating a switch of a whole bunch of my team over to Android, just because people, when left up to their own devices, will often prefer an iPhone.”

As of yet, we don’t know if the entirety of Facebook is being made to use Android devices, but IBTimes UK reported that the memo has been circulating employees in the US headquarters. Facebook is hoping that it can offer the social network in India as so far 1.49 billion people are using the site, but India has 1.25 billion people living in the country. Just earlier this year, Facebook launched “Facebook Lite” which works much better on slower phones and slower data connections.
