If you use Twitter on a daily basis then you’ll likely know that various politicians who use the social network make mistakes with tweets or post something controversial, and then promptly delete them. For a long time those tweets were archived by a website called Politwoops, but earlier this year Twitter removed access to the website which was collecting and archiving tweets from politicians in around thirty countries, the argument which Twitter initially went with is that, like other users positions do have the same rights to delete tweets, but earlier this week the company decided to reverse that ruling.

“Politwoops is an important tool for holding our public officials, including candidates and elected or appointed public officials, accountable for the statements they make, and we’re glad that we’ve been able to reach an agreement with Twitter to bring it back online both in the US and internationally,” said Jenn Topper of the Sunlight Foundation.

Politwoops and Twitter have reached an agreement earlier in the week on Thursday to once again start storing the deleted Tweets from politicians while also making them part of the public record. Earlier this year Politwoops was taken down by Twitter when the social media site disabled their access to the APIs.
