This week Tesla has announced some new top end model additions to the Model S and Model X line ups, both adding more range and better performance. For the Model S saloon range a new P100D model has now been added and has become the third fastest accelerating production car ever, coming only behind to the Ferrari LaFerrari and Porsche 918. To achieve this Tesla have included a huge 100kWh battery which increases the range to 315 miles on one charge and while this may add weight the 0-60 time is an insane 2.5 seconds.

The larger Model X has also received the bigger 100kWh battery and this car now does 0-60 in 2.9 seconds, so long Ludicrous mode is activated.

Tesla has also released that adding these new models has pushed the price of models up considerably, the company has explained that this does benefit lower cost cars.

“While the P100D Ludicrous is obviously an expensive vehicle, we want to emphasize that every sale helps pay for the smaller and much more affordable Tesla Model 3 that is in development,” Tesla says. “Without customers willing to buy the expensive Model S and X, we would be unable to fund the smaller, more affordable Model 3 development.”
