Samsung is very close to shipping the new Galaxy S8, arguably the company’s most important launch in a few years. The S8 is the company’s first flagship phone to be launched since the battery incidents with the Note 7 late last year.

One of the main features of the handset is the Bixby voice assistant. A rival to Apple’s Siri and Google’s “Now” assistant. However today Samsung has revealed that when the S8 ships in a few weeks, the Bixby assistant wont be installed, instead for unknown reasons it’ll come in a software update “later this spring ” and for the US only at this point.

With its intelligent interface and contextual awareness, Bixby will make your phone more helpful by assisting in completing tasks, telling you what you’re looking at, learning your routine and remembering what you need to do. Key features of Bixby, including Vision, Home and Reminder, will be available with the global launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 on April 21. Bixby Voice will be available in the U.S. on the Galaxy S8 later this spring.
