Android Go has been around for a little while now, first revealed at Google I/O in May 2017 it was billed as a smaller, lighter, less resource intensive version of the main Android operating system designed for less powerful phones, which typically have less than 1GB RAM.

Earlier this week, Google revealed that we could expected to see the first hardware versions to be announced at Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC) this year, with the phones to go on sale shortly after the conference.

Android Go

This smaller and less resource heavy version of Android is really designed for emerging markets, where bandwidth is limited, as is storage space. So Android Go by design has specifically tailored apps, aptly named Gmail Go, Google Maps Go etc. Google is saying that theses apps are up to 50% smaller than they are on regular Android.

Release

Mobile World Conference is being held in Barcolana, Spain between 26th February – 1 March 2018. Judging by what Google has mentioned, expect to see new Android Go phones shortly there after.
