Apple’s AirPods have been hugely successful, while we have no hard sales data the customer satisfaction for the wireless buds have been very high. The current versions have been out for a little while now, launched at the end of 2016 alongside the iPhone 7, which famously had no headphone jack included in a bid to save internal space, as well as make the phone more water resistant.

The AirPods were launched to show off what the future of wireless audio can be, with simple set up, instant pairing and clever smarts to auto-pause music and answer phone calls.

2018 update

Now the next version of AirPods may be coming soon. According to a report from Bloomberg we may see the second version of AirPods later this year. The 2018 version is said to include a new wireless chip imbedded for hands free “Hey Siri” support, currently to invoke Siri you either have to double tap one of the AirPods, depending on how you have it set up or use your Apple Watch provided you have one.

Also in the report, Bloomberg has suggested the third version of AirPods, which would come some time in 2019 might be able to “survive splashes of water and rain.”
