Yesterday, the official iOS app for Twitter was updated to version 7.3 and amongst the usual bug fixes and feature improvements, support for iOS 9 was removed. Granted, not many devices are running a software version that old anymore, most of them can now run iOS 10 or later.

iOS 9

If you haven’t updated and have a device that can, we highly encourage you to do so, as in recent releases Apple have made big improvements to device performance, battery life and more importantly all the recent security patches. as well as all the new features that have been added since 2015.

One of the devices that might still be used is the original iPad mini from 2013, due to the fact that from new it had the A5 chip, from the previous years iPhone 5 it can only run up to iOS 9. However devices that can run iOS 12, which is due to come out later this year stretched back to the iPhone 5s, which was released in 2013.

In the release notes or 7.3, Twitter mentioned:

“We are streamlining our app development for all clients,” as a result, devices on iOS 9 or older will no longer receive updates from Twitter.”

Twitter 7.3 only supports iOS 10 or later now.
