It’s that time of year again, get your iPhones ready for what Apple has in store next. Back in June, as it does every year – Apple showed off iOS 13 at WWDC to developers and it has been in beta since then to developers can get their apps and services ready for the release of the new operating system, which is dropping next week.

iOS 13 – as quick as possible

  • What is it? – This is Apple’s brand new operating system for iPhone and iPod touch, iPad has its own new OS called iPadOS which you can learn more about on A&T Tech.
  • When is it being released? – iOS 13 was unveiled at WWDC back in June. iOS 13 is launching on September 19th.
  • Will my device work with iOS 13? You can get the full list of supported devices at the end of this post, but in brief, iPhone SE is supported and iPhone 6s and later will work as well as the iPod touch 7th generation.

What’s new?

We posted an article back in June on this very website detailing every detail about what Apple is bringing to the iPhone with iOS 13 but in brief we have an all new Dark Mode coming to iOS 13 and also to iPadOS also. The integrated software keyboard can now support swipe gestures, and also as it did with iOS 9 – Apple is heavily focusing on performance, to make sure even the oldest devices work well. Apple has said Face ID is much quicker to unlock your phone and apps now launch up to 2x faster.

Speaking of older devices, it is more common that the older devices had less storage options – now thanks to optimisations in the way apps download what they need for your specific device, applications from the App Store can be up to 50% smaller.

With iOS 13, apps from the App Store will be packaged in a new way that makes them up to 50 percent smaller the first time you download them, up to 60 percent smaller on average when apps are updated, and up to twice as fast to launch.
