Back in September 2018 we reported that quite a large number of businesses were still using Windows 7 at the time. When that was written there was around 500 days left until Windows 7 would go unsupported, in the report it found that 17% of business in the US and UK weren’t even aware that Windows 7 would lose support soon and also 33% of businesses were still running Windows XP.

Now we are just over one month from when Microsoft will drop support for Windows 7, now that Windows 10 has been out for over 4 years. Windows 7 has been out now over ten years.

When will Microsoft drop support for Windows 7?

Windows 7 will stop being supported on January 14th 2020. From then on, Microsoft will no longer provide any security patches.

Thankfully, for users not in the know, Microsoft has been rolling out notifications to Windows 7 users.

“If you are a Windows 7 customer, you can expect to see a notification appear on your Windows 7 PC. This is a courtesy reminder that you can expect to see a handful of times in 2019. By starting the reminders now, our hope is that you have time to plan and prepare for this transition.”

What do I need to do if I am on Windows 7?
