According to Car the next generation of Ford Focus RS hot hatch will be using a mild-hybrid system, while remaining four wheel drive like the outgoing model. The third generation was introduced in 2014 and then dropped from sale last year in the summer, followed by an anniversary edition.

But the next version, which Car says is in the later stages of development now and might launch in 2021 is going to be based on a mild hybrid system, still with plenty of power though at 400bhp with the petrol motor driving the front wheels and then the instant torque of the electric motor driving the rear wheels.

Car have also reported that the next RS will have a 48-volt system, which is becoming a common addition to cars as of late.

Ford has just launched the new Ford Focus ST hatch and estate, which like the last model has a diesel engine and a petrol engine.
