August has been making smart locks which work with your phone for a while now and the latest generation, the August Smart Lock Pro is one of the most well reviewed locks on sale today. But like most smart home products on batteries, it uses bluetooth and therefore has to have some kind of hub or bridge in order to interface with the network and or internet.
Wi-Fi Smart Lock
August’s latest product, the August Wi-Fi Smart Lock connects directly to your WiFi network now on only 2.4GHz, hence the name which mitigates the need for any network bridge, which means an easier installation process for less tech savvy users and also, should make the communications faster too.
As well not needing to use a hub anymore, August has managed to reduce the size, when compared to the Smart Lock Pro. August says “the lock is 45% smaller in volume and 20% slimmer than the August Smart Lock Pro.”
The Wi-Fi Smart Lock still has all of the same features as other August smart locks, with DoorSesne which can let your know the status of the door, whether it is securely closed or not and all the alerts to let you know who has come and gone throughout the day.
The new lock works with Apple HomeKit, Google Assistant and Alexa. You can sign up for more information here on the August website. No infomation on availablity and pricing as of yet.
