Ford has been getting involved with electrifying its commercial vehicles for a little while here in the UK, with the plug-in-hybrid Transit Custom panel van, but it isn’t a full electric van. Ford has also proved that it can produce a fully electric vehicle with the new Mustang Mach E SUV which has an impressive range and a reasonable price.
Ford announced last week that the Ford Transit, the larger van will have an all-electric version go on sale for the 2022 model year in the US and Canada, with no word about availability for Europe and the UK as of yet.
“Commercial vehicles are a critical component to our big bet on electrification. As leaders in this space, we are accelerating our plans to create solutions that help businesses run better, starting with our all-electric Transit and F-150″
Jim Farley – CEO Ford Motor Company
Like the new Mustang Mach E, the electric Transit will be “smart and connected” which is how Ford describes it, with built in FordPass and 4G WiFi hotspot for remote working online. Ford has said that the electric Transit will be built in the US.
Pricing and availability is not yet know, Ford has said more details will come soon, however.
