Yesterday, after quite a few leaks – the new Beats Powerbeats headphones were launched, these are technically the fourth generation of wireless Powerbeats which still have the cable between the two clip on ear buds.

These new ‘Powebeats’ are the follow on product from the Powerbeats3, which were introduced back in 2017, along side the iPhone 7, original AirPods, BeatsX and Solo3 Wireless headphones. The new Powerbeats look more similar to the Powerbeats Pro and it seems dropping the number from the name should help simplify the product line.

What’s new with the new Powerbeats?

The new Powerbeats, like the Powerbeats Pro have a more angled fit for the ear and Apple is also including four different tips.

The Apple H1 chip is also added, to allow fast and easy pairing with iOS devices and also the seamless switching between Apple devices on iCloud. The new Powerbeats now support hands free “Hey Siri” as well as working with the audio sharing feature found in iOS 13 and iPadOS 13.

The new Powerbeats are also water and sweat resistant rated at IPX4, which is the same as the Powerbeats Pro. The battery life has been improved too, the old Powerbeats3 could go twelve hours on one charge, the new Powerbeats can go fifteen hours.

Similar to the BeatsX headphones, the Powerbeats don’t have a wireless charging case, but instead you’ll need to plug a cable in and unlike some other Beats products lately, at least the cable is Lightning and not microUSB.

In the box, you get the Powerbeats, a draw string bag, a USB A to Lightning charging cable and some extra tips.

Apple has also dropped the price of the Powerbeats from $199.95, which the old Powerbeats3 started at to $149.95. Apple will start selling the new Powerbeats from Wednesday 18th March on apple.com

(UK pricing is not available at the moment, this post will be updated once we have that information.)
