This week, Ford has announced a new off road, rugged range of the Transit line up. The new Trail and Active specifications will be coming to all Transit models with the Transit Trail, Transit Custom Trail and Transit Custom Active.

Ford has said the new trim level makes the Transit more tough in harsher working environments, with four wheel drive on some of the models and new differential.

There are two versions, the Trail and the Active. The Trail version is available on the full size Transit and the smaller Transit Custom, you get new plastic chunky bumpers, plastic cladding on the sides and large “Raptor” style FORD logo in the grille. Also, a mechanical limited-slip differential which has been developed with Quaife. Four wheel drive is offered, but only on the full size model.

On the full size Transit Trail the four wheel drive system has new ‘Slippery’ and ‘Mud/Rut’ drive modes, which can be selected from the dashboard.

Engine wise, both the Transit and Transit Custom Trail have a few options, a 2.0-litre turbodiesel engine with 128bhp, 168bhp or 182bhp. Ford is also offering a 48v mild hybrid option.

As well as the hardcore Trail version, Ford is offering the Transit Custom Active which is less extreme but does have the plastic cladding and new grille.
