Apple has long offered trade-ins for iPhones in store, when you want a new iPhone you can take your old/current one along and Apple will take the value off the new iPhone and help you transfer all your data over. Trade-ins for Macs has been possible but not in store, you’d have to ship your MacBook to Apple, wait for it to be assessed and valued and then you can purchase a new Mac – this can take time and you’d be left without a computer to use if it was your only machine.
Now Apple is starting to offer in-store trade-ins and recycling for Macs. Hardware that is in a good condition will end up going to new owners and Apple will be responsibly recycling any hardware which can’t be used or sold.
