Back when the Defender went on sale earlier this year and the prices were announced, there was promise of a plug-in hybrid variant to join the range and now this week, Land Rover has revealed it, the P400e will have 398bhp in total, with 296bhp coming from a 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and 139bhp coming from the electric motor.
In pure electric mode, the Defender P400e will be able to do 27 miles and the electric motor helps the Defender achieve 85.3mpg with CO2 emissions of 74g/km. 0-60mph is achived in 5.4 seconds, which is quite quick for a vehicle of its size.
Up until now, the standard Defender has only been offered in 110 size but the 90 was delayed due to the lockdown, and starting this week the Defender 90 has gone on sale too. The Defender 90 starts at £43,625, the standard 110 version starts at £45,315. The P400e will go on sale next year and will only be offered in the 110 size.
