Apple’s first big major product event this year is about a day away now, on Tuesday 15th September and for the first time ever, the event will not be taking place in person like years gone by, instead like WWDC back in June, the entire event is assumed to be virtual and WWDC is anything to go by, the event will be a series of pre-recorded and edited together videos.

However, usually every September we get ready to see a new iPhone, a new Apple Watch, maybe an iPad and a new iOS version released to the public – this years September is expected to not see a new iPhone, which will be strange to say the least. For the past 8 iPhone models, they have always shown up in September.

Instead the event tomorow is expected to contain a new Apple Watch, a new iPad Air as well as iOS 14, iPadOS 14 and watchOS 7 being announced to the public, with an official release date as well as a few extra items such as the much rumoured ‘Apple One’ subscription bundle, smaller HomePod.

Apple Watch

We can expect the Apple Watch Series 6 to be announced at the event tomorow, every year since the Series 2 Apple has introduced a new one like clockwork (pun intended) alongside the iPhone. Apple might not change the design of the watch this time around, we can say that Force Touch might get removed due to changes within watchOS 7 and the way menus have been redesigned, it now has more prominent ‘back buttons’ as opposed to relying on the pressing harder and invoking extra menus.

If Force Touch is removed, that should remove the layer in the screen and create room for a larger battery.

iPad Air

The last iPad Air was revealed in 2019 and was the first time since the iPad Air 2 in 2014 the name was used again, it sits in thhe £500 price range, below the iPad Pro with Face ID and above the iPad at the £350 price range. Apple is expected to update it at the event with thinner bezels, no home button and according to some leaked manuals, it will have Touch ID but the sensor is said to be imbedded in the power button.

Software

Back in June, Apple announced iOS 14, iPad OS 14, watchOS 7, tvOS 14 and macOS Big Sur and if we are to not see a new iPhone model tomorow then we might not hear anything about any software at all, even watchOS 7 might not be talked about as it requires iOS 14 to work, but it remains to be seen.

Apple One

For what feels like years, there has been talk about an ‘Prime like’ service to come from Apple, a one payment bundle which combines all of Apple’s services into a discounted price. Mark Gurman from Bloomberg reported that a so called ‘Apple One’ bundle is ready for this year and this would bring together Apple music, Apple News+ Apple TV+, Apple Arcade and most likely iCloud Storage too.

New small HomePod

The original HomePod made its debut at WWDC in June 2017 and then went on to ship in the January of the following year for £349 and was then reduced down to £279 around a year or so later. A new smaller and therefore, cheaper HomePod has been rumoured for a while now, simply due to the price of the HomePod – but we will have to wait and see.

Event

The event is on the 15th September and is due to start at 10am PDT / 6pm BST. Be sure to check A&T Tech for the all the latest news on the day.
