Today at its ‘Time Flies’ event Apple has introduced the brand new Apple Watch Series 6, with new colour options, new SoC with the S6 chip as well as a new health sensor.

The Series 6 shares the same design as the Series 5 from last year and the Series 4 from 2018, we have the stretched out display to the corners with minimal bezels but this year we have some new colour options, including a Blue aluminium finish, classic gold stainless steel graphite stainless steel, and an Apple Watch finished in PRODUCT(RED) aluminium. Apple has also launched a range of new bands, in new colours too – most notable is the new ‘Solo Loop’ which doesn’t have any buckles or linking clasps, instead it is one loop.

In terms of new features, Apple has added a new blood oxygen sensor which can detect the oxygen saturation in the blood and like an ECG it can be done on demand but also blood oxygen can be detected in the background. Also new is the S6 chip, with Series 4 and 5 Apple used the same S5 chip but for this year, Apple has said the S6 is based on the A13 processor from the current iPhone and it is now 20% faster than the S5.

“The remarkable new sensor and app in Apple Watch Series 6 allow you to take on-demand readings of your blood oxygen as well as background readings, day and night.”

Apple has also made the always on display 2.5x brighter and the altimeter is now always on. Also for the first time, the new Apple Watch Series 6 supports 5GHz WiFi as well as 2.4GHz. All models previous have only support 2.4GHz. Also the Series 6 has the U1 chip, first seen last year in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro.
