At its ‘Time Flies’ event yesterday, where Apple introduced the new Apple Watch Series 6, Apple Watch SE as well as the new iPad Air and eighth generation iPad. Apple also surprised everyone with the news that the next generation of software for its devices would be coming today, the 16th September. This left some developers frustrated to say the least as they will have minimal time to get apps ready and submitted.

iOS 14

We covered all the new features in depth back in June after WWDC, but the main highlights are new widgets for the home screen, improvements to the Messages app, new cycling directions in Maps, improvements to the Home app, CarPlay and more.

iPadOS

iPadOS 14 shares nearly all of the features as iOS 14, however in terms of widgets – they cannot be placed anywhere on iPad, instead they live in the section on the left hand side. Other iPad features include scribble with Apple Pencil, iPadOS can now recognise and read handwriting.

watchOS 7

We covered all the new features in depth but, watchOS 7 includes brand new watch faces, family setup for family members who have an Apple Watch, but don’t have an iPhone yet, new Sleep tracking mode, as well as much more.

tvOS 14

tvOS has a small update this year, new is the addition of HomeKit controls in the control centre, YouTube now works in 4K, audio sharing with other AirPods and Beats headphone users and also videos over AirPlay can now be done in 4K too. Also, Picture and Picture can now be used to view HomeKit cameras.
