As the new Golf GTI Mk8 enters the scene starting today – which you can now order, the iconic up! GTI seems to have been removed from the Volkswagen online car configurator completely, the little hot hatch was introduced in 2018, then taken off the market in April 2019. This was due to the way emissions are tested with the new WLTP testing procedure and also the allocation of cars for the UK had already been allocated, at that time. Then, earlier this year in January, Volkswagen brought back the up! GTI, it was more expensive, about £3,000 more than when the original was released, it also has the new VW logo as well as Active Lane Assist, which was made standard on all trim levels of the up!.
Now on the online configurator page for Volkswagen UK, the 3 door up! only has one trim level and the 5 door has the standard car, Beats, White Edition, Black Edition and the R-Line. Pictures of the GTI version do remain dotted around the website however.
We have reached out to VW for a comment on this, and will update this post accordingly.
Update 30/09/20 20:00 BST – Volkswagen didn’t get back to us at all, but as of today the up! GTI is back on sale, with no changes noted.
