This week, a few major publications were given early access to the new Xbox Series X which is due to be available this November, starting at $499 in the US and £449.99 in the UK. Out of most of the reviews, one opening quote from Engadget’s review was good news, simply: “The Xbox Series X is zippy.”

From what I can gather, Tom Warren from The Verge has had early access to the Series X, so has Jessica Conditt from Engadget, Sam Machkovech from Ars Technica and Richard Leadbetter from Eurogamer.

Out of these four reviews, one thing they all mentioned was how fast the Series X is, Tom Warren from The Verge, for example tweeted this, a comparison of the boot time of the Xbox One X and the new Series X.

Tom also said that going from the One X to the Series X is like “going from cable internet back to the days of a 56k modem” and that game performance is faster and smoother.

Jessica highlighted the backwards compatibly on the Series X, meaning original Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One game will all work on the new Series X. Microsoft has over 1,000 games ready to work from the back collection.

“This library will run natively on the console, meaning each game can take advantage of the Series X’s faster CPU, GPU and SSD, and even hit 4K.”

Richard mentioned the super fast SSD in the Series X and the new Xbox Quick Resume feature Microsoft has added. The outgoing Xbox One X had a spinning hard drive and Microsoft has moved to a SSD for the next generation of consoles.

“As for the SSD? This can help tremendously too. Load times in the area of one minute when accessing saved games on Final Fantasy 15 were chopped down to 12 to 14 seconds. I also think that Xbox Quick Resume really is a beautiful piece of technology.”

Sam also said about the Xbox Quick Resume feature, allowing super fast switching between open games meaning very little loading between games.

“Jumping from one game to the next via Xbox Quick Resume usually clocks in around 8 seconds.”
