Today Apple introduced the new iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, with the iPhone 12 being an evolution of the outgoing iPhone 11, with a similar design, two cameras and multiple bright colour options. This time the iPhone is powered by the same A14 SoC we saw on the brand new iPad Air last mont, which has a six core CPU and four core GPU.

In terms of design, the overall look is pretty much identical, with large display with a notch at the top to house the Face ID camera, glossy glass back and dual camera system. This time the edges have been made flat, like the new iPad Air and existing iPad Pro. The screen has also been pushed out to the edges to achieve a larger display in the same body. The iPhone 12 is 11% thinner, 15% smaller overall and 16% lighter than the iPhone 11 from last year.

With the display, Apple has moved from the Liquid Retina HD display on the iPhone 11 to the Super Retina XDR display for the iPhone 12, same as the iPhone 12 Pro. This means the colours will be more vibratant and the ppi has jumped from 326 to 460ppi.

The new display is not made out of glass now, instead a new Ceramic Shield material which enables 4x better drop performance.

Also new is the addition of 5G, with support for mmWave.

The new iPhone 12 has a 6.1-inch display and the iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch display and it is a smaller phone than the iPhone SE, but a smaller phone.
