Apple has released the biggest ever update to macOS today with macOS Big Sur which is version 11.0 but Apple has actually jumped ahead today, releasing macOS 11.0.1 to compatible machines today.

This update changes a lot about the user interface, which borrows a lot from iOS and iPadOS with completly refreshed UI, icons and it also has a control centre.

Some apps also get new updates, including Messages which brings the features in line with the iOS app as well as Maps which adds cycling information.

You can update to macOS Big Sur from the Software Update tool in the System Preferences app.

macOS Big Sur will run on:

  • MacBook – 2015 and later
  • MacBook Air – 2013 and later
  • MacBook Pro – Late 2013 and later
  • Mac mini – 2014 and later
  • iMac – 2014 and later
  • iMac Pro all models
  • Mac Pro – 2013 and later
