This week, to coincide with the release of the brand new line of M1 Macs from Apple, the MacBook Air, MacBook Pro and Mac mini – Google is releasing a new version of Chrome to run natively on Apple Silicon Macs, with Chrome version 87. Instead of releasing a universal app, Google has chosen to offer two different versions, both offered at the download page.

When you visit the webpage to download Chrome on a Mac, you are offered with the above message as well as a quick guide on how to find out what type of Mac you have if you don’t know. Prior to this release, Chrome would run within Rosetta 2 and be emulated.

Google is also claiming that unlike previous versions of Chrome on macOS this should manage its resources better, be faster and use less battery.
