The US is undergoing a change in the car market, the once popular saloon cars and hatchbacks are now being overtaken by pick up trucks and SUVs and part of the move is companies stopping selling smaller cars, such as the new Ford Fiesta which hasn’t been made available in the US and now the Volkswagen Passat, which will stop being sold in the US once the current model gets replaced, most likely in 2022/2023.

“We’ve made a decision to cancel the Passat for the U.S. The sales trend is very firmly in favor of SUV models, as indicated by the success of the Atlas.”

VW CEO – Ralf Brandstätter

The Passat has been sold across the pond since 1974 and the current model was refreshed this year. Volkswagen will continue to sell the new sleeker Arteon, which is a bit more pricey but for those who don’t want an SUV, there is at least that choice.
