Elon Musk, Tesla CEO has recently hinted that for the market here in Europe a smaller Tesla EV, in the form of a hatchback might be coming at some stage. All he said was, when speaking to Bloomberg:

“In Europe, it would make sense to do a compact car. I’m sure there will be others as well.”

More compact cars are important part of the market here in the UK and Europe, the roads are smaller than in the US, parking spaces are smaller and something as large as the Model S and Model X do work in some places, but are very large compared to everything else we have here.

The smaller Tesla could be a redesigned version of the existing Model 3 and be manufactured at the plant near Berlin. Other electric cars such as the VW ID.3, Nissan Leaf and new range of Peugeot e-208 and Vauxhall e-Corsa are all smaller cars.

Elon went on to say:

“It would be reasonable to assume that we would make a compact vehicle of some kind and probably a higher-capacity vehicle of some kind.”

The new Tesla plant in Germany is due to be completed in July 2021.
