YouTube itself has supported the 8K resolution about five years ago and we’re now starting to see some 8K TV hit the market, and to meet that demand, YouTube has updated its app on Android TV to support 8K, up until now standard Android TV boxes have been capped at a maximum of 4K.

The new version is 2.12.08 and according to Android Police, it is rolling out slowly. Android 10 is also required to even receive the update to YouTube.

8K uses about 100mbps or 44GB per hour, but there is a benefit to run the video in 8K, even if you have a 4K TV as it’ll work with downscaling providing a bit better quality.
