Volkswagen launched the ID.3 all electric here in Europe and the UK earlier this year and its the same outside space as a Golf, with the same wheelbase as a much larger Passat giving the car more room inside. Volkswagen is looking to expand the line up with a smaller car, probably called the ID.1 and it’ll be more Polo sized.

Volkswagen has been dabbling with smaller electric cars for a little while, back in 2013 the company launched an all electric version of the up! city car and just this year, a new version was launched with over 160 miles of range, but here in the UK at least it has disappeared and can’t be ordered.

The upcoming ID.1 would compete with the existing Mini E, Peugeot e-208 and Vauxhall Corsa-e, with the latter being very similar cars as PSA owns them both. Volkswagen executives have hinted that when the new car launches, it could be around £20,000 which is what the e-up! was.
