Twitter said that when the new President of the United States, Joe Biden took over from from Donald Trump the two accounts for @POTUS and @WhiteHouse would have all of the followers removed as soon as the new administration was sworn in. Before the accounts were moved over and decommissioned, POTUS had 33 million followers, but during his administration Donald Trump rarely used it, instead using his personal account (@realDonaldTrump) he has had since 2009 which was banned earlier this month.

@WhiteHouse had 26 million, @FLOTUS had 16 million, and @PressSec had 6 million. @POTUS was renamed @POTUS45 and frozen in time for Donald Trump’s time as President.

As of today, @POTUS under Joe Biden has 5.3 million followers.
