According to well regarded researcher, Jane Manchum Wong – Twitter could be gearing up to re launch its user verification program next week. The system has been in place for over a decade to give those users a blue checkmark, which means they are verified. Account verification is useful for celebrities, news outlets, politicians and more to help the general public differentiate them from potential parody accounts, or imposters.

Twitter temporarily stopped honouring verification requests in late 2017, due to some controversies on who was being verified and for what reasons. With the new form to fill in, users will be asked for who they are and what type of user they are, as well as news coverage on them.

The new verification process was talked about last year, when Twitter said it would start the program up again in 2021, with new rules.
