Today, Apple leaker Jon Prosser has shared what could be the next generation Mac mini, with the same M1X chip as the upcoming MacBook Pro that is rumoured to be launching at WWDC in June. The new Mac mini has been rendered by Ian Zelbo, based on schematics sent to Prosser.

Prosser has said the new Mac mini will have four Thunderbolt ports, two USB-A, one Ethernet, and HDMI. Usually on M1 based machines, the maximum Thunderbolt lanes it can have is two. However, considering that the M1X will be much more powerful and designed for the new MacBook Pro, it makes sense for it to have four. The top of the case is reported to be made out of a “plexiglass-like” material, which according to Prosser could mean that colour options are coming to the Mac mini.

There isn’t any word on when this new machine could be released, but if the new MacBook Pro 16-inch is being revealed at WWDC in June, then it could be at the same time or later on this year.
