Like other major cities around the country, Edinburgh is now going to implementing a low emissions zone or LEZ. The city is planing on putting this into practice come 2022 and will join Bath, Birmingham, London and Oxford in having these zones.

The LEZ zone bans all non-Euro 6 diesel vehicles from the area from spring 2022 as well as all petrol vehicles that don’t meet Euro 4 emissions standards. This also means that any buses and HGV vehicles would be banned from the Edinburgh city centre going forward. Lothian Buses which operate there are already planning on making its fleet compliant by the end of 2021.

Like in other cites where LEZ is operating, there are fines in place for anyone who comes in to the zone with a non compliant vehicle will be charged £60, this will become £30 if paid within 30 days.
