Dacia is a brand known in the UK for its budget cars, good quality basic ones and Dacia has the cheapest new car on sale in the UK still, with the Sandero at £7,170. However, the product line up fro the Renault owned brand doesn’t contain any electric or hybrid cars yet, even though it does offer LPG powered models.

Dacia has a new electric car which has gone on sale recently in Europe, the Spring. its a small city car with some SUV like styling, such as plastic wheel arch cladding and good ground clearance. The car is around £10,500 witht he price converted and Auto Express has been speaking to Dacia about the possibility of bringing the Spring EV to the UK.

“We’re not done yet on that one. We’re still in the process. We are carefully studying all of the engineering implications of making the car in right-hand drive, so I cannot announce anything right now. But it’s still cooking. This year we will decide.”

Denis le Vot – Dacia CEO

The Spring has a 27.4kWh battery, 44bhp and a WLTP range of 143 miles. The charging port is in the grille, hidden away and the wheels are steel, to cut down on costs. DC charging is offered at 30kW and a 7.4kW wallbox will charge the car in five hours.

A lower cost EV is what the market needs right now, with the cheapest being the Volkswagen e-up! which is around £20,000 for similar range. We’ll have to wait and see if Dacia decide to bring the Spring to the UK.
