This week, Volkswagen has revealed the updated Polo GTI for 2021 which has some new Golf Mk8 inspired designs and technology and more. The new GTI is based on the recently refreshed Polo which includes a design lift in places, new steering wheel and infotainment system.

The new Polo GTI doesn’t get any new engine improvements here, it retains the same 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 204bhp driving the front wheels only. Like the last year, Volkswagen is only offering a even-speed dual-clutch gearbox with no manual gearbox in sight. 0-60mph is handled in 6.5 seconds.

Around the car, Volkswagen has made some welcome design changes with a full width light bar on the rear and LED matrix lights fitted as standard. Dynamic scrolling indicators are also new to the Polo here, and come as standard. The Polo GTI sits 15mm lower than standard Polo models and has a unique set up for performance.

Inside, the Polo GTI has an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto fitted as standard and the dash gets the same bright red trim as the last model, which can be swapped for a more subdued colour. Options are plentiful and include a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone changing, Beats speakers and larger 18-inch alloy wheels.

Pricing and release date are yet to be announced for the new Polo GTI.
