Most cars from Mercedes, Volkswagen and others have their own system built in for grabbing the attention of a voice assistant to do certain things in the car, in Mercedes cars for example you have ‘Hey Mercedes” and in the latest Mk8 VW Golf you now have “Hey Volkswagen” which lets you use your voice to turn the heating up and all sorts of various commands.

But what Rivian and Lamborghini have done, and I’m sure other car company’s will follow suit is now integrate Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant into the car. Rivian’s decision makes sense here as Amazon has invested in the company.

Alexa in the car will be able to take calls, control the sat-nav, control the air-conditioning and heating system as well as open and close the electric windows.

Rivian

Alexa support on the Rivian R1T and R1S will come at the end of 2020 and Rivian are at CES 2020 this week too, in Las Vegas Convention Center, North Hall – 5616.

“Rivian’s vision is to enable exploration without compromises and provide our owners the best digital experience, no matter where their adventure takes them. We want this to be the most comprehensive, most seamless Alexa integration in the market.”

Rivian founder and CEO RJ Scaring

Alexa in Rivian’s vehicles will also have some functionality without any internet connection and considering both of Rivians cars are incredibly off road capable, that make sense.

Lamborghini

Lamborghini boss spoke to Autoblog today and said that Alexa support is coming to the Huracán Evo range to start with and there isn’t any information on whether Alexa intergratuin is an optional or standard feature. Like in the Rivian, Alexa can help you make calls, set the air-conditioning and heating system as well as get the weather. But, unlike the Rivian – Alexa will not work if there is no active internet connection
