Volkswagen has updated the new T7 Multivan with a new diesel engine option. The new Multivan was released back in June last year, went on sale in November and is the replacement for the since discontinued Caravelle.

When the Multivan went on sale, it was only offered with three engine choices, a 134bhp 1.5-litre petrol, 201bhp 2.0-litre petrol and a 215bhp 1.4-litre petol with hybrid technology. The new 148bhp 2.0-litre diesel now joins the range.

The diesel Multivan is priced from £44,410 and is just priced above the hybrid engine choice. The diesel is front wheel drive and has a automatic DSG gearbox.

However, despite being pitched as the replacement for the Caravelle, VW is pitching this as a replacement of the Touran and Sharan MPV models, both of which are not offered.

In the back of the Multivan are five individual seats, two up front and five in the back so the old three seater bench is gone. The bench was awkward to move around so it is a welcome change having separate seats. Each chair can be moved back and forward whenever needed, as there are rails along the length of the van.

Inside the cockpit is a lot of the new tech from the latest Golf 8, with a 10.25-inch digital cockpit, USB-C ports throughout and an integrated eSIM for hotspot functionality and keeping the software up to date.

The new Multivan is on sale now, including the new diesel version. There won’t be a fully electric version, as that space is filled by the new ID.BUZZ.
